ALMANET INTERNAL: Keywords

Listen up, because I'm only going to explain this once. If you can't grasp these simple concepts, you probably shouldn't be editing AlmaNet in the first place. Type these into the access code block, if it decides to show up.

history: This shows who did what and when. It's not rocket science.

  • When the edit happened
  • Who had the bright idea to make the change
  • What they claim they did (whether they actually improved anything is another matter)

rationale: This displays, unsurprisingly, rationale for the currently open entry. Usually that includes:

  • Total number of edits (brace yourself, it's usually depressing)
  • File size (as if anyone cares)
  • Creation date (ancient history for most entries)
  • Last modified date (probably too recent, given the quality)
  • File type (hint: it's always going to be text)
  • Any other technical mumbo-jumbo our system decides to track

IMPORTANT (yes, even for you): Our cutting-edge tape drive system sometimes goes on strike. No surprises here, everything went fuckside when M left the company, so we have to work around it. When this happens, history and rationale might vanish into the ether. The "Access Code" section might play hide and seek too. Don't bother me about it - just wait or pester tech support if you're feeling particularly masochistic. My take: if it's not there, don't worry about it.

There's also this... quirk with the Access Code section. Apparently, if you know the right code, you can make it show other arbitrary data. Is it a bug? A feature? A "feature-not-bug"? Who knows. I'm not even sure the dev team is aware of it. Or maybe they are and just don't want to admit it. Either way, it's there. Use this information wisely, or don't. I'm not your babysitter. Just don't expect it to show anything unless you know what you're putting in there.

Remember: Every edit is logged. Every. Single. One. So think twice before you hit that submit button. Your digital fingerprints are all over this, and I'm always watching.
